The image is beautiful. This artist's work to me evokes some of my most beloved associations with venues like Metal Hurlant. The sense one has of a solid wall opening up to display - thrust forth - an enchanting and irresistible horror within is palpable. The ghastliness of the faces provide a powerful and unique commentary on the subject matter. Not lost on the viewer are the weapons in the hands at the bottom of the central icon, and the fact that envy is indeed deadly. One criticism is thematic - the central icon in my opinion actually looks too three dimensional. This may seem like an odd comment, as most artists would think of achieving three dimensionality as ideal in a two d form, but it seems fitting to me that an icon of envy should be a perfectly flat surface with no depth at all - just a lot of shadow.
