Again, drawn into a Leothefox stream-of-consciousness melee of pinpoint daylight that barely showers down through miles of wet coal black, to rain on half-assembled, or even still assembling, mutant thinkers and wonderers. Intricate bone and fungi swarm to create his languid characters. We are left with not dread, but a perverse calm, as these eyeless dwellers judge us. At first look, I could not discern whether Leo was drawing white onto black, or was he shaping black to form white? Both have equal technical challenges, especially in this high-contrast arena, but I see by his siggy that it's white onto the background - - and what an undertaking, to think and translate as only light illuminating complex shapes, leaving the paper as "shadow/darkness", only again proving his artistic chops. As my friend Huw stated below, "This could have been an illustration for "Weird Tales" in an alternate reality!" and he is Spot On! There are tiny, subtle hints of Virgil Finlay here in Leo's work, but primarily, we are receiving this transmission totally under his control. Bravo, this is brilliant!
Thanks! Well, I get a piece of ledger-size paper, put it on the extra-big clipboard I found at Goodwill, and I sit on the bed poking at the picture with big thick markers and tiny fine pens while watching shows from the 70s and 80s until it's done
I thought the "Murder She Wrote" part was a gag , I have to ask does "MSW" inspire the direction of the piece somehow? You have an unusual set up, my friend, haha.
I love that you use black paper, I did a project in high many years ago using black paper and it was quite fun, but not many folks do this from what I've seen
Well, "Murder She Wrote" has been a favorite of mine since childhood, so there is some kind of long term influence. When at home I always draw with TV going.
Most are actually a cheat, black marks on white paper reversed in Photoshop, so I draw in negative. It is a lot of fun, thinking backward as it were.
Hmmm... that's quite interesting. I can't say that I have ever seen the show, but I have heard of it. Hah, I always paint/draw to the telly as well, that or music.
Ahh, that's crafty... you sly fox you . I don't know that I would consider that cheating, especially if you admit it.
